Method for controlling a drive, in particular a reverse drive, of a motor vehicle that is coupled to a trailer via a trailer coupling, comprising the steps: - detecting a steering angle of at least one wheel of the motor vehicle, - calculating a maximum drawbar angular velocity, which describes a temporal change of the drawbar angle, as a function of the steering angle, wherein the drawbar angle describes the angle between an instantaneous direction of motion of the trailer coupling and a longitudinal axis of the motor vehicle, - detecting a articulation angular velocity, which describes the temporal change of an articulation angle between a longitudinal axis of the trailer and the longitudinal axis of the motor vehicle, by means of an articulation angle detection device, - automatically reducing the vehicle speed if the articulation angular velocity is greater than the maximum drawbar angular velocity.
