The invention relates to a driver assistance system, in particular for a commercial vehicle, with at least one sensor with which driving data for the course of a currently traveled route section are determined. According to the invention, determined driving data for the course of a currently forward-traveled, predetermined last route section (x) are stored in a temporary memory (4). Upon activation of the assistance function and a reverse drive (5), the driver receives, through evaluation of the driving data stored in the temporary memory (6) by means of optical (7) and/or acoustic and/or haptic information and/or through automatic steering interventions (8), orientation assistance for the return journey on the route section (x) that was previously traveled forward and recorded.
