A process for parking or distance ranging for a motor vehicle comprises determining the distances of objects in the vehicle view field and generating signals to show collision-free travel (go) or collision possibility (stop) depending on whether use of the maximum steering angle will or will not avoid a collision. An independent claim is also included for systems for the above process.
