Process and system for the detection of an accident risk

The method for detecting the risk of a collision in which distance sensors (4) for detecting objects (6) within the detection area (5) of a motor vehicle (1) generate signals when the vehicle is moving relating to a collision risk and also generate signals when the vehicle is stationary and there is a risk of a collision with an object due to opening of the motor vehicle door (7). An Independent claim is made for a motor vehicle collision warning device for generating a first signal when there is a risk of a collision when the vehicle is moving and for generating a second signal when the vehicle is stationary and there is a risk of a collision being caused by opening of the vehicle door into the path of an oncoming object.
