Protection system for the vehicle driver

The protective device consists of an airbag module (16) including an inflatable airbag. The airbag module is fitted behind the vehicle dashboard (12). When the airbag is inflated, it extends into a space bounded basically by the driver's side door (26), the A-pillar (28) and the steering wheel. The airbag module may be fitted between the steering wheel (10) and the driver's side door.
