The method involves determining an instantaneous value of a slope on which a vehicle is to be driven. A theoretical braking torque is determined according to the slope such that the vehicle attains a desired speed. The value of the torque is corrected for obtaining a target braking torque. A signal corresponding to the target braking torque is emitted towards a regulation system. The instantaneous value of the slope is determined by calculating instantaneous longitudinal acceleration from measurement made by wheel speed determining sensors and comparing the acceleration with a longitudinal acceleration measured by an accelerometer. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle comprising a vehicle driving assistance device.
