The rate of a control gear engagement depends on a control unit command (CUC) defined by the difference of a quotient of 1) crosswise vehicle acceleration and vehicle speed and 2) an actual yaw rate. The CUC is selected using minimum absolute values for this quotient after filtering it and a yaw rate setting value calculated from a driver steering angle e.g. using an Ackermann reference.
