Vehicle parcel shelf

The parcel shelf (8) includes a rigid panel (10) including an arrangement (12) for longitudinally extending the length of the shelf. The parcel shelf includes rigid top and bottom parts (18,20) separated from each other, with an area (24) formed in the front or rear of the parcel shelf for accommodating a winding/unwinding device (30) for a roll of flexible material. The roll accommodating area is closed by a housing (44) having openings (42) in it through which the sheet material can pass for lengthening the parcel shelf to cover load carried in the vehicle boot. An Independent claim is included for a motor vehicle having a rear boot that can be covered by the above arrangement.
