The arrangement has at least one drive (3) for raising the engine hood (1) if an accident involving a person occurs and a protective device (15) for the person in the hood and/or windscreen area. The engine hood has an associated triggering device coupled to the protective device that can detect an impact of a person on the hood and can control, preferably trigger, the protective device. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: a method of controlling, especially triggering, a safety device in the front hood area of a motor vehicle.
