Vehicle roof with illumination element

The roof has a transparent roof area (10) and an adjustable cover element (50) arranged beneath the transparent area so as to cover it with respect to the vehicle's interior (28) or at least partly expose it. The cover element has a flat electroluminescent illumination element (58) working towards the interior. The cover element is in the form of a roller blind arrangement with a roller strip (54) that can be wound onto a spool (52).
