Lighting device for flat screen and manufacturing process thereof

The device has a bearer substrate (3) for a flat display unit (1) and electrodes stacked on it, between which are arranged an organic electroluminescent layer (4,5). At least one electrode and the electroluminescent layer are partly separated by an electrically insulating layer to define a light-emitting surface. The electrically insulating layer is a photolithographically structurable organic layer. Independent claims are also included for the following: a combination instrument for a vehicle and a method of manufacturing an illumination device for a flat display unit.
