Method for triggering a restraint system

The method involves comparing an acceleration and/or a summed acceleration in the direction of travel with defined thresholds for triggering a restraining system. The acceleration and/or the summed acceleration in the direction of travel are increased for a defined period before the comparison depending on an acceleration and/or a summed acceleration transverse to the direction of travel. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for implementing the method.
