Alonzo Alvarez, C Miami (FL) (Atlantic Coast)

3-for-3, R, BB

Vahn Lackey, C Georgia Tech (Atlantic Coast)

1-for-3, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB

💣💣 Ryan Zuckerman, 3B Georgia Tech (Atlantic Coast)

4-for-5, 2 HR, 2B, 2 R, 4 RBI

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets win again in the ACC Semifinals over Miami 9-3, and continue to show off the length and strength of their lineup. Vahn Lackey has been rolling all season, but is white hot at the right time, with a homer in 3 straight games, and added 2 walks. Still with an AVG over .400, that’s 18 HRs on the season now, which was hit at 104 mph on a screaming liner, and all three of his batted balls hit at 102+ mph. Lackey is clearly in the top 3 of prospects in this draft, and will draw conversations to go before then if this stretch continues. Unfortunately for other teams, the only player yet to get hot in this GT lineup… just double-dong’d, with 3B Ryan Zuckerman hitting homers numbered 21 & 22. The first blast had an 111 mph exit, and 421’ distance, and the second was 105mph/411’. Just for fun, in his last PA, he scorched a single at 116 mph. I’ve been saying it’s 70-grade raw power all season, and I finally have the Baseball Savant to prove it. A win tomorrow will certainly bring them to the National #2 seed, and potentially #1. In a losing effort, Alonzo Alvarez stayed hot, reaching base in all 4 PAs, including 3 singles. It’s been a good FR season for the backstop, with an OPS near 1.000. Miami can sleep the next couple of nights, as they’ll certainly make the Field of 64, likely as a 2 seed.
