I am preparing to submit a research manuscript to arXiv and require endorsement for the eess.SY (Systems and Control) category.

Title: Kinematic Discriminants of Deceleration Behavior Modes in Car-Following: Evidence from NGSIM Trajectory Data

Summary: This study analyzes over 1 million car-following observations from the NGSIM dataset to identify which kinematic variables actually govern driver deceleration behavior. A two-stage framework distinguishes between available information (measurable variables) and utilized information (variables that truly separate behavioral modes). Using clustering and ANOVA-based effect size analysis, the results show that gap-closing rate and visual looming dominate under different braking regimes, while spacing headway has negligible explanatory power.

The work is positioned at the intersection of:

· traffic system dynamics

· data-driven behavior modeling

· control-relevant state variable selection (ADAS / AV systems)
