The invention relates to an anti-skid device (1) for the tire (2) of a motor vehicle. The anti-skid device (1) has an inner support (8) designed to be contractible, which is arranged on the inner side of the tire facing the motor vehicle when the anti-skid device is mounted. When the anti-skid device is mounted, an outer support (80) is arranged on the outer side (78) of the tire (2) pointing away from the motor vehicle. Between the inner support (8) and the outer support (80) there is a traction section (52) to increase the traction of the tire (2) on slippery surfaces. A pulling means (32) serves to contract the inner support (8). The pulling means extends from the inner support (8) to the outer support (80). An automatic tensioning device (88) is provided for drawing in the pulling means (32). To simplify the handling of the anti-skid device (1), the pulling means (32) is hooked into the traction section (42), so that the tensioning device (88) contracts the traction section (42) at least in sections in the circumferential direction (42) of the anti-skid device (1) when drawing in.
