The disclosure relates to a system (100) and method for managing access to a vehicle (1), the method comprises the steps of determining the geographical location of a portable electronic device (30); determining the distance between a vehicle (1) and the portable electronic device (30) and/or determine the relative speed of the portable electronic device (30) in relation to the vehicle (1) and in a determination that the wireless key (10) is within radio coverage of the wireless key control unit (20) of the vehicle (1), and that the distance between the vehicle (1) and the portable electronic device (30) exceeds a predefined distance (L), or that the relative speed of the portable electronic device (30) in relation to the vehicle (1) exceeds a predefined speed limit (V), send a notification to the portable electronic device (30).
