This rim (3) for a cycle wheel is adapted to receive an open tire. The rim presenting in radial section a "U" shape with two lateral walls (33A, 33B) situated on either side of a median plane (M) of the rim, and a lower bridge (38) which connects the lateral walls. An upper bridge (31) connects the lateral walls to form a closed contour. The upper bridge (31) comprising a median zone (Z31) extending on either side of the median plane (M). In the median zone and over a circumferential portion of the upper rim equal to or greater than 50% of its circumference, a thinned thickness (E31, E36) of the upper bridge (31) is less than 0.75 mm, preferably less than 0.65 mm.
