The invention relates to a container (1) with an upper loading opening (3) and a tarpaulin cover device (6) which comprises a tarpaulin (5) that can be wound and unwound, which in an open position releasing the loading opening (3) can be supported as a roll on a roll support device (11) on the outside of a first side (9) of the container (1), and which can be spread from the first container side (9) to a second container side (15) opposite the first container side (9) over the loading opening (3), wherein the roll support device (11) has a laterally outer support arm (18) which is arranged to be adjustable between a spread-apart position providing space for the tarpaulin roll for its support on the outside of the first container side (9) and a position of approach approximated to the first container side (9), and is biased by means of a pretensioning device (40) toward the position of approach.
