The invention relates to a method for a coasting operation of a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine, in particular a commercial vehicle, wherein in coasting operation the internal combustion engine is dragged in unfired operation and with a closed powertrain, and wherein means are provided for reducing a motor drag power of the internal combustion engine, by means of which the motor drag power is reduced during coasting operation, so that the internal combustion engine is dragged in coasting operation with the reduced motor drag power.
