Driver protection roof which can be lowered

A retractable driver protection roof has a roof device (6) that is movable between an erected operating state and a lowered operating state. The roof device (6) is supported at its corner regions by four pillars (4, 5) in both the erected and lowered operating states. Each of the pillars (4, 5) has a rigid support (4a, 5a) connectable to a vehicle and a support (4b, 5b) that is pivotable relative to the rigid support (4a, 5a) between an erected end position and a lowered end position, whereby the lowered end position corresponds to a position in which an upper end of the pivotable supports (4b, 5b) is at a lower height level than in the erected end position. A drive (10) is provided for moving the roof device (6) between the erected operating state and the lowered operating state. In this manner, the overall height of a cargo vehicle equipped with the driver protection roof can be temporarily reduced in order, for example, to pass through low gate entrances.
