The vehicle roof has at least one cover for opening and closing a roof opening (11) and a wind deflector pivotable between raised and lowered positions and spring biased towards the fully deployed position. A retaining device is formed by the end of a flexible element (28) joined to the wind deflector and with a drive connection to an actuating motor (43) via a flexible shaft (37) for transferring longitudinal movement.
