According to an aspect of the present invention, an internal combustion engine (1) is provided which includes a fuel cell (4), a low-pressure-stage turbocharger (3L) with a low-pressure-stage turbine (3LT) and a low-pressure-stage compressor (3LC), and a high-pressure-stage turbocharger (3H) with a high-pressure-stage turbine (3HT) and a high-pressure-stage compressor (3HC), in which the internal combustion engine (1) is configured such that air to be supplied to the fuel cell (4) is extracted from a downstream side of the low-pressure-stage compressor (3LC), and exhaust gas discharged by the fuel cell (4) is supplied to a position on a downstream side of the high-pressure-stage turbine (3HT) and on an upstream side of the low-pressure-stage turbine (3LT).
