A turbocharged internal combustion engine (1) is disclosed that may comprise an engine block (10) with a first end side (18L) opposing a second end side (18H) and a two-stage turbocharged system (12). The two-stage turbocharged system (12) may comprise a low-pressure turbocharger (26) with a first turbine (T L ) and a first compressor (C L ) and a high-pressure turbocharger (28) with a second turbine (T H ) and a second compressor (C H ). A turbine connection (35) may fluidly connect the first turbine (T L ) and the second turbine (T H ) and a compressor connection (34) fluidly connects the first compressor (C L ) and the second compressor (C H ). The low-pressure turbocharger (26) is mounted at the first end side (18L) of the engine block (10) and the high-pressure turbocharger (28) is mounted at a second end side (18H) of the engine block (10).
