The invention relates to a trim component for a motor vehicle having a sealing strip for the window channel of a vehicle door and a decorative strip (2) serving as a cover strip for the sealing strip (1), wherein the decorative strip comprises a profile strip (5) with an outer surface (11) directed away from the vehicle and visible from the outside when properly installed and an inner surface (8), as well as at least one light source (6), and wherein the profile strip is designed to be translucent or transparent at least in a partial area to be illuminated. The decorative strip should be constructed simply and cost-effectively to manufacture. It should furthermore have a flat design and be installable in a space-saving manner, yet nevertheless convey a visually higher-quality impression compared to known decorative strips provided with light sources and externally differ as little as possible from non-illuminated decorative strips. To achieve this, it is provided that the outer surface of the profile strip forms the external visible surface of the decorative strip and the at least one light source is arranged on the side of the inner surface of the profile strip in order to illuminate the profile strip, wherein the light rays pass through the inner surface of the profile strip from the rear and exit again from the outer surface of the profile strip at the front.
