The invention relates to a base element (21) of a load securing system (71) for arrangement on a vehicle roof rack. The base element (21) has a base section (22) with two side edges (23, 24) spaced at a distance (A) from one another and with a contact side (27), which, when the base element (21) is mounted, comes into contact with a section of the roof rack. A first holding section (31) and a second holding section (41) are provided extending from the base section (22). Between the first holding section (31) and the contact side (27) of the base section (22), a first receiving space section (32) for receiving a section of the roof rack and a first mounting opening (33) for arranging the base element (21) on the roof rack are formed. Between the second holding section (42) and the contact side (27) of the base section (22), a second receiving space section (42) for receiving a section of the roof rack and a second mounting opening (43) for arranging the base element (21) on the roof rack are formed. The first mounting opening (33) and the second mounting opening (43) are oriented in opposite directions relative to one another. The holding sections (31, 41) are spaced at a distance (E) from one another. The invention further relates to a load securing system with such a base element.
