The fuel system (1) has a venting unit (3) that vents a fuel tank (2). The venting unit has a buffer (5) for storing the liquid fuel. The buffer is provided with a separator (4) having chambers filled with porous material such as sponge-like or filter-like material. A diffuser is formed in the buffer.
