A printer (10) comprises a ribbon cover (20) configured to move between an opened ribbon position for providing access to the ribbon supply and a closed ribbon position and a media cover (30) configured to move between an opened media position for providing access to a media supply and a closed media position, wherein the ribbon cover comprises a slidable opening mechanism, and wherein the slidable opening mechanism comprises a cam surface (14) along which the ribbon cover (20) slides in response to moving between the closed ribbon position and the open ribbon position.
