Method for operating a navigation system

The method involves determining an actual position of a navigation system. A distance and/or distance change between the actual position and boundary of a closed geographical area (12) is determined. Relevant traffic- and/or travel information (13) i.e. rules for road transport, with respect to closed region depends on the distance and/or distance change between the actual position and boundary of the geographical area, and depends on an active user profile.
