Data can be exchanged between a car radio and a navigation system. In order to have continuous traffic information via a transmitter for supplying traffic information for an area (A) being currently driven over, a vehicle's position (C) during its journey is detected by a navigation system. From data stored in the vehicle a reception frequency is determined for a traffic information radio transmitter (TA1,TA2,TB1) assigned to the vehicle's current position.
