High pressure fuel pump

The pump has a high pressure discharge unit (26), and a pressure limiting valve (42) with a valve unit that is actuated by a pressure difference. A throttle arrangement (64) is provided at a high pressure side of a valve seat (54) of the pressure limiting valve. The cross section of the throttle arrangement is approximately equal to a desired maximum opening cross section of the pressure limiting valve.
