Method for operating a navigation system

The method involves selecting a part of vectors from a map data memory device into a representation producing device and transforming the vectors by the representation producing device on the basis of a transformation rule. A map representation is displayed by a display device, where the map representation is developed on the basis of the part of the transformed vectors.
