Motor vehicle with a brake system and method for actuating a brake system

The method is for the controlling of a brake unit of a motor vehicle which has the aforesaid brake unit, a drive train (10) loaded by an engine (12), with a unit to separate the engine from the rest of the drive train such as a clutch (30,32), an electronic control unit (36) to control the clutch, and an electronically controlled brake monitoring and/or operating unit to monitor and/or to operate the brake unit and consequently to monitor whether predetermined functional impairments of the clutch control unit are transmitted and/or detected or sensed by the clutch control unit. An independent claim is included for a motor vehicle with a brake unit controlled by the aforesaid method.
