A front panel center section (58) on a gas bag (GB) module (10) prevents free movement as the GB (56) unfolds. A gas generator (16) fits under a diffuser (22) with a first module-proof diffuser element (DE) (24) and a second DE (26) sliding in an axial direction (A) against the first DE on a preset limited slide path (d). A covering cap (42) has a center section (50) fixed on the second DE.
