The fuel tank (1) for a motor vehicle has a fuel feed device (14) with a fuel pump and a filter element (15) installed in the bottom. The filter element has a bag-form filter fabric (16) which is located in several deep lying areas of the tank bottom in the installed position of the tank. The mesh width is sized in such a way that the wetted filter fabric is penetrable for fuel and impenetrable for air. The filter fabric may extend over the whole area of the tank bottom, or several individual filter fabrics may be distributed in the said regions of the tank bottom. An independent claim is included for a fuel feed device in the fuel tank of a motor vehicle.
