The internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle has a fuel tank and a fuel pump (26) to feed a fuel injector (20). A leakage passage (36) feeds fuel to an air inlet (18) of the engine and has a lubricant separator (42) to prevent lubricant entering the engine. The separator can be a filter or precipitator.
