Gas deflection device for an airbag module

The airbag module for motor vehicles has a gas generator (31) and a gas distribution device (10) with an outer casing (12) to at least partially accommodate the gas generator and a gas deflection section (32) in the region of the gas outlet (34). The gas deflection section, through the gas flowing out after ignition of the gas generator, is transferred from a space saving assembly configuration into an operating configuration fulfilling the gas deflecting function and with an increased space requirement in relation to the assembly configuration.
