An air bag cover (10) made of a thermoplastic, consists of a primary section with a primary surface to volume ratio, and a secondary section (18) with a secondary surface to volume ratio, which is greater than the primary ratio. The cover is formed by filling a mold with plastic and then cooling until the plastic solidifies. The cover consists of two or more plastic components. One of the sections that forms the second section is maintained at 30-100[deg]C. The second layer (52) consists of a softer material than the primary layer (50), and a groove (18c) is located in the primary layer.
