The internal combustion engine (10) has a device (22) for compressing induction air, a device (33) for cooling compressed induction air and an injection device (34) with which fuel can be injected directly into a combustion chamber (12). The cooling device for induction air is connected to at least one heat exchanger (54) that cools the fuel fed to the injection device and/or an installation region for the injection device and/or the injection device itself.
