The vehicle has a side structure with a seat attached to the body structure and a side impact protection device for an occupant with an unfoldable head air bag on the side structure with a first inflation device and a side air bag on the seat with a second inflation device. The side air bag is a thorax air bag (19) arranged inside the seat (5) back (8) with its inflation device in its rest position that unfolds essentially forwards out of the side element (21).
