The method involves recording first and second forces applied by the vehicle's drive train and the resulting acceleration values in a time sequence and estimating the weight. First and second mean force values are determined during first and second force averaging periods by cyclic multiple force sampling and arithmetic averaging. The weight is computed as the difference in mean forces divided by the difference in accelerations.
