Method and apparatus for forming the free edge of a self-supporting thin moulded product

The method involves forming a weakened zone close to and along an edge of a blank by applying heat to the blank. A free edge flange of the bank is bent into a bent position relative to a remainder of blank along the weakened zone, which provides a bending hinge. The free edge flange is fixed in the bent position by removing heat from the weakened zone, where rim comprises the free edge flange fixed in the bent position. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) an apparatus for forming a rim of a self-supporting thin-walled molded component (b) a self-supporting thin-walled molded component.
