The convertible motor vehicle has a multi-section folding top compartment cover (5) with at least one separating joint (6) between the sections (7,8) extending at right angles to the direction of travel, and with the cover sections interconnected by a gear linkage (22). To open the aperture for the roof the sections of the cover can hinge in relation to each other, and at least one actuating component (18) is effective in the pivoting direction of the sections in relation to one another.
