Internal combustion engine having fuel injection device

DRIVE September 17, 2003
Source
The engine, having at least one cylinder (10) with a head containing valves, has a fuel injector for each cylinder which delivers multiple jets (30) of fuel towards a concave annular cavity (34) in the piston face. The angle between the axes (32) of adjacent fuel jets is equal to at least 10Pi divided by the diameter (FD) of the cavity base, the angle of the fuel jet spray is preferably between 40 and 100 deg, and each fuel jet axis intersects the lateral surface of the piston cavity's central peak (40) at an angle of some 5 deg.
