Combustion chamber roof

DRIVE September 18, 2002
Source
The combustion chamber roof for a motor vehicle direct injection internal combustion engine has an injector (1) and inlet and exhaust valves (10,11). Adjacent to the injector are shock wave reflectors to deflect the shock wave generated by the jets of fuel (8) during injection back towards the jets. The deflectors can include a compression ramp positioned opposite to the jet nozzle apertures.
