The elevating means comprises a sleeve closed at its ends by a pair of cheek webs. One web rotates with the sleeve around its longitudinal axis and can pivot relative to the sleeve from an initial angular position where it is held in position by de-clutchable locking means to a final angular position where it is driven by a return spring (9) interposed between the sleeve and the cheek web. An Independent claim is included for a vehicle comprising pedestrian collision protection device.
