A bonnet-lifting device (600) for pedestrian protection in a front end collision comprises a lifting element (2) in a housing (1) fixed to the bonnet controlled by a sensor and spring (3). A reversing device has a pawl (9) rotatably connected to a manual or electric motor drive (12) and operates automatically according to the lift position.
