Protection device for pedestrian or the like
DRIVE
May 4, 2005
In order to provide a protection device for a pedestrian or the like being excellent in protection characteristics of the pedestrian or the like under various different collision conditions (physical constitution of the pedestrian or the like, the collision position, and the collision speed of an automobile (1)), in the rear of a bonnet hood (3) or a cowl-top (2) a first airbag device is provided for inflating a first airbag (4) so as to cover the vicinity of the cowl-top (2) upon colliding with a pedestrian or the like. A second airbag device having second airbags (7) respectively covering A-pillars (6) is arranged on either lateral rear of fenders (8). Upon detecting collision with a pedestrian or the like, the first airbag (4) firstly inflates so as to cover the vicinity of the cowl-top 2 (however, except both ends thereof). After a lapse of about 5 to 30 mSec from ignition of a gas generator of the first airbag device, the second air bags (7) are upward inflated along A-pillars (6) under the guidance of the inflated first airbag (4) so as to cover the substantial entire of the A-pillars (6).
