The steering axle has a one-piece steel cross support (2) with tubular torsion-rigid end sections (3) which pass through suitably contoured openings (12) in the side walls of the upper and lower shells (3,4) of longitudinal rods (4) which are welded together through their facing arms (10). The end sections are welded on both sides of these rods to the side walls of same over more than half their circumference. The dividing plane of the longitudinal rods extends in a plane running through the longitudinal axis (11) of the end sections of the cross support.
