A 360 degree vision system for a vehicle

A vehicle environment monitoring system including a camera (14) mounted on top of a vehicle (10) and a conical reflector (13) in operative relation to the camera (14). The camera (14) and the conical reflector (13) provide a 360 DEG field of view image (17) around the vehicle (10). A controller (20) is also included which is adapted to detect objects (86) within the field of view image (17), and determine a reference angle (q) between the vehicle (10) and a detected object (86). The controller (20) also generates a distance value between the vehicle (10) and the detected object (86) as a function of a lane width value (w) and the reference angle (q).
