Method for folding an airbag for a vehicle passenger restraint system as well as the folded airbag

The airbag (10) is folded out between support (12) and abutment (16) so a casing (18) can be passed round the airbag and led out at one end (20) through the abutment (16) so the passage (22) for the casing (18) through the abutment (16) shows the contour to which the airbag folds up. The casing is then pulled through the passage (22) and in so doing folds the airbag up within it (18). The passage (22) contains a contouring stamp (24). The casing is continuously walled or can be made up if adjoining belts are fixed to the support (QW) at the clamp (14).
